How to choose a parrot?

Of all the species of domestic birds, budgies are perhaps the most optimal “option” for a city apartment: they are much smarter than other small birds, sociable, easily tamed, get used to the owner - and are quite unpretentious in maintenance, unlike large parrots.

In an ordinary apartment they feel quite comfortable, they have enough space for flights and walks. Yes, and buying a bird will cost inexpensively.

Unfortunately, that’s why many get a parrot like a toy for a child. The result is a tortured, aggressive bird, which they seek to get rid of. Or they use it as decoration of the interior, like aquarium fish - and they don’t let the poor parrot out of the cage at all.

If you need a faithful friend who will love you and will always cheer you up, feel free to opt for the budgerigar. But you, for your part, will have to make some efforts to become a good master for him.

Before choosing a pet, make sure that everything is ready for its appearance: cage, food, water. A place for the cell should be selected in advance and not changed, at least for the first time. You need to put it away from the drafts, in a well-lit place, at the level of your eyes. Never put the cage in the kitchen, especially on the refrigerator.

Buying and transporting is a lot of stress for a parrot. Reduce the time of the road as much as possible, use the “carrying” container and do not catch a bird! At home, try to make it into the cell itself. Now you have to leave a new friend alone for a while. Ideally - 30 days. Let him get used to the new conditions.

Cats and dogs love being petted. For a bird, touch is stress. Do not take the bird in your hands once again, no matter how much you like. One way or another you have to do this sometimes: to examine, if ill, to cut the claws. She should be a little afraid of you - at least so that you do not accidentally sit on it.

A parrot must be let out daily to fly. But when he is free, he must always be in your field of vision. Open windows, boiling pots, glasses of water often become deadly traps for small curious birds. Inattention of owners in relation to their pet often leads to accidents.

The main way to know the world for a parrot is to taste. He nibbles with his beak, touches. Cosmetics, detergent residues, even varnish on your hair - all this is not good for your pet.

Take care of bird health

In no case should you give a parrot human food. Even the bread. Only grain mix, fruits and vegetables. No sugar, salt or fat! Regarding boiled eggs and low-fat cottage cheese, the opinions of breeders and experts differ. Better, I think, to abstain.

Do not buy grain by weight! Especially in the market. It’s cheaper, but wild birds could peck it - your bird can become infected with parasites. Expensive mixtures of European production are optimally suited, preferably in vacuum packaging (box, and inside the box a bag). The bird eats two teaspoons a day, so these expenses will not be noticeable.

Change the water and wash the drinker every day. Tap water is excluded. It would be better if it was bottled water from the store (naturally, not mineral or non-carbonated). Ideally, bathing water should also be from the store, because the bird drinks a lot during bathing.

The main problem you will encounter is an acute shortage of specialists in avian diseases. The internet will help you here. But it is better, of course, to look in advance for an ornithologist.
